John Toohey Chambers
Simon is a recently retired Judge of the Family Court of Western Australia and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Division 1, having served in that role for nearly 14 years.
Simon has an Honours degree in law, commenced practising in 1975 and attained silk in 2008 prior to his appointment to the courts. His practice as a solicitor, and at the Bar since 1991 has focussed almost exclusively on family law.
Simon is a nationally accredited Mediator and a nationally registered Arbitrator.
Simon has previously been the President of the Family Law Practitioners' Association of WA. He is a member of the National Family Courts' Children's Committee and has been actively engaged in the presentation and organisation of continuous professional development within the legal profession generally.
Simon is a former officer in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve and has served on various community boards.
Simon is a member of the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators and continues to engage with ongoing professional development, particularly within the family law profession.
